John Cornwall
Jersey Youth Service
John works for the Jersey Youth service as a Senior Youth worker and has done since returning to the Island in 1999. He has always liked the outdoors and the sea, over the years he has been a climbing, canoe, kayak, dingy and power boat instructor. He has also owned his own boat (only a very small Day sailor). Once his children came along and time and energy were limited, most of these have now lapsed. However his love for the sea has not. He is in or on the water as much as he can be, mostly on a SUP these days.
He has been involved with the Variety Sailing Trust ever since coming back to the island, his first year back the Spirit of Variety undertook the Atlantic crossing which was amazing to follow. Over the years, he has sailed on her a number of times crewing for groups of young people. It is amazing to see these young people who don't get a chance to get out on the water experience what it is like to move under wind power and explore our amazing coastline and work with the skipper and crew to sail the boat.
John first joined the committee as the Youth Service / Education Department Representative but now is a Trustee. John has loads of experience working with young people and a good helping of enthusiasm.
